5 Fitness Tips for Busy People

By Briceyda Cuadros, updated December 4, 2020

Are you one of those people who are always “too busy” to work out? Truth is, there is always time to work out no matter how busy your day to day routine is. Finding just about 20-30 minutes of time in your day is perfect for a quick and effective work out.  Keep in mind that getting into a gym is not the only option for exercising. Here are 5 tips that will help you burn some calories without wasting too much of your valuable time!

1. Work out early

Having to wake up early when you are sleeping warm and cozy in bed is probably not something you look forward to each morning. But working out early as soon as you get up will not only make you feel more energetic throughout the day, it will put you in such a great mood and make you feel accomplished.  Work can often make you stressed in the afternoon and exhausted at night, so the most convenient time to exercise should be early in the morning when there’s nothing that can ruin your mood.

2. Walk or bike to work or school

Getting into a gym is not the only way to get a good workout in for the day. Live less than 20 minutes away from your job or school? Try biking or even walking if that’s an option for you. Biking specially is fantastic for your health and will improve your mood!

3. Try high intensity, time saving workouts

Many people believe short workouts are useless—they are mistaken.  The best thing about high-intensity cardio is that you can do it anywhere. Jumping jacks, pull-ups, pushups, burpees, jump rope, and planks, all can be done at home or in the office. Do 20 seconds of high intensity, followed by 30 seconds of recovery and repeat for seven or eight rounds. Quick and easy and you’re all set!

4. Exercise can fit into the busiest workday

If you have to go to another floor, take the stairs. Try walking across the office to chat with a colleague, instead of sending an email. Your next meeting? Make it a walking meeting, especially if it’s nice out. If all you can do is stand up from your desk every half-hour and stretch, maybe walk around your office, then do that.

5. Make it fun!

If you have kids, do things together. If it can be something active, you will get the exercise as well. Win-win!  Walk or hike in the town park or nearby nature reserve, dance around the living room to their favorite music, jump on a trampoline (even if you look silly). If you think about exercise this way, I guarantee you’ll enjoy it more!

I hope these tips are helpful! Remember, living a healthy and active lifestyle does not have to be hard or time consuming. All you have to do is keep moving. Your body and your health will thank you!

3 Tips to Cope with COVID-19 Stress

by Stephanie Lopez, updated May 11, 2020

The outbreak of COVID-19 has changed many lives around the globe. It is a stressful time for everyone that has caused strong emotions in adults and children alike. Learning how to cope with stress will help make you and your community stronger. Below are some of the tips I find help me cope with stress during this time:

  1. Take care of your body:  Spending long hours inside of the house and laying in bed is not the healthiest for your body and/or mind. I recommend going outside to catch sunlight for a few minutes. Running, walking or jogging are my favorite types of exercise. If you have a pet, play with your pet! Just taking fresh breaths of air can make a huge difference.

  2. Connect with friends:  You can make social distancing social. We are lucky to have access to many resources to connect with friends and family. You can video call, call, or message your friends and engage in activities such as watching a movie, singing together, or even dancing! Use this time to connect with others and to check up on them.

  3. Read a book:  A book is one of the best teachers to learn lessons about others and yourself. Find something that piques your interest or surprise yourself by enjoying a topic outside of your comfort zone and interests. A book helps you travel time and space.

I hope these simple tips will help you during this time. Remember, everyone is going through a difficult time, however, we will come out of this stronger. Please remember to be kind to one another. You never know, your smile could make their day!
